Paula Perez, LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse)

C-NCS (Certified Newborn Care Specialist, DNT Network

CLS (Certified Lactation Specialist)

Hello, I am Paula Perez. I started working in the Pediatric field in 1999. During my career I have cared for thousands of newborns and their families. I'm often the first face that most families see at their first pediatric visit. Over the years have learned a great deal about babies. I've also watched parents walk in completely elated, exhausted, worried, and confused. The last two years, I have made it my business to start HELPING parents by providing guidance on how to care for their newborn, and how to survive those first critical four weeks. One thing I noticed, there are Prenatal education classes before your baby arrives. However, that does not typically reenforce the hands-on experience with a real baby. The guidance and education should include AFTER your baby is born.

I created the Nest To Newborn Collective to give parents the hands on teaching they need by providing education on newborn behaviors like hunger, sleepiness, and discomfort. Knowing these cues, can help alleviate a lot of stress for parents.

I also became a Certified Lactation Specialist through WIC, to better serve Mom's on their breastfeeding journey. I also address real issues, when there are problems with feeding such as latching, and comfort positions. Breast is always best, but sometimes our breastfeeding plans fail. I discuss how to get back on track if baby is not gaining weight.

I perform vital car seat safety checks and show parents how to properly secure their baby when traveling. Most places do not give a hands-on demonstration unless a class is taken, or someone shows them how to do it.

I discuss safe sleep and swaddling techniques, teaching parents the A-B-C's of safe sleep to prevent SIDS/SUIDS.

I show parents how to burp their babies and help them to alleviate gas and discomfort and cover proper feeding to help alleviate reflux and colic symptoms. I educate on how to build the family bond with all of the new changes that come along with a baby.

One thing is for sure; babies do not come with instructions. We often fly by the seat of our pants when it comes to the learning curve of parenting. I always tell parents to think of it like this: Imagine going to take dance lessons. You don't know the instructor, the dance moves, the song, or your partner. With practice, you become better at what you are doing. Understanding simple things like the why are helpful to learn the reasoning behind the skills.

What makes my services unique, is that I provide 1.5-2 hours of hands-on teaching in the comfort of your own home. This allows parents to feel more relaxed without having to travel. You can be exactly where you want to be, at home. Group settings are helpful for teaching, but you will have direct access to perform tasks confidently.

The quality education that some parents receive typically, comes from a nanny or night nurse. That can add up over time. Many families are not in a position realistically, to afford these types of services. What makes my services different, I teach parents HOW to be confident, empowered, educated, and supported to care for their baby without the high price tag that comes along with nannies and night nurses. One class, proper education, education material at the tip of your fingers, and helpful resources that parents can find for support.
